Editorial policy
People use our figures to make real decisions about their money, so we hold ourselves to these rules.
1. Every figure has a source
Each wattage, energy figure and price links to where it came from, such as Ofgem, a charity, a consumer body or a manufacturer's specification. Where sources disagree, we show the range rather than picking one.
2. We label what kind of figure it is
Every figure is marked Typical (published), Energy label or Measured. We never say we've measured something we haven't. Any assumption, such as how long a heater's thermostat keeps it on, is labelled as an illustration.
3. We write our own words
We restate facts in our own words and build our own tables and worked examples. We don't copy other sites' text or tables.
4. No invented reviews, quotes or statistics
We don't publish testimonials, star ratings or survey results that we haven't got. If we have no figure for something, we say so.
5. We keep it current
Each page shows when it was last updated and which price cap it uses. When Ofgem announces a new cap, we update the default rates and dates. The next announcement, for January to March 2027, is due by 25 November 2026.
6. Independence and advertising
Pence Per Hour is independent and owned by Rob Falconer. Adverts, when we add them, are kept separate from our content and don't influence our figures or recommendations. We don't currently use affiliate links. If that changes, we'll label them clearly.
7. Corrections
If you find a mistake, please tell us through our contact page. We'll check it against the source, fix it and update the page date. For significant changes, we'll add a note to the page explaining what changed.
